Sporting KC II midfielder Cielo Tschantret has earned the MLS NEXT Rising Star of Matchday 24 honor thanks to his game-winning header against Austin FC II.
After Lucas Rosa leveled the match with a goal in the 58th minute, Tschantret capitalized on a corner cross from Felipe Hernandez in the 62nd minute to secure the lead for his team.
Sporting KC II held onto the 2-1 lead for the remainder of the game, securing vital three points. With their victory, SKC II, not only handed Austin FC II their second home loss of 2023, but also dashed the hosts' hopes of securing a playoff spot that night.
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Tschantret joined the Sporting KC Academy ahead of the 2020-2021 season. The defensive midfielder has represented Sporting KC at the U-15, U-17, and U-19 levels and made four preseason appearances for Sporting KC II before suiting up for regular season action.
Tschantret’s father, Lee Tschantret, recently joined the Sporting KC U-19s as head coach and is a candidate for the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
With their Matchday 24 win, SKC II remains in fourth place in the Western Conference standings and is two points behind Austin FC II and Tacoma Defiance with four matches to play.Â
Sporting KC II will now travel to take on LA Galaxy II on September 3rd at Dignity Health Sports Park in search of another victory.Â
