After earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Austin FC II, Tacoma Defiance has earned the MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchday 14.
With this win, the Defiance extended their unbeaten streak to four games, while also earning their second clean sheet of the season.
The decisive goal for Defiance took place midway through the first half when Paul Rothrock drew a clever foul inside the penalty area following a throw-in. Braudílio Rodrigues stepped up to take the penalty and buried the kick with confidence, securing the victory for his team and notching his team-leading seventh goal of the year.
It is worth noting that Austin FC II entered the game with an impressive clean sheet streak, having gone over 400 minutes without conceding a goal.
Adding to Austin FC II's defensive prowess was goalkeeper Damian Las, a recent selection for Goalie Wars during the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge. Las had only allowed 9 goals entering the match against Defiance and boasted an impressive seven clean sheets.
Following their Matchday 14 victory, Tacoma Defiance has climbed to fourth place in the Western Conference standings. Wade Webber's side has been resilient during the latter part of June going undefeated in regulation since June 5th. Defiance has collected points through two shootouts and two victories in that timespan.
Tacoma Defiance will remain at home during Matchday 15 hosting Houston Dynamo 2 on Sunday, July 2 at Starfire Stadium.
