For the second time this season, LAFC2 midfielder Matt Evans has earned MLS NEXT Pro’s Goal of the Matchweek honor.
The 18-year-old struck in the 57th minute against Tacoma Defiance, breaking a 1-1 deadlock with a stunning turnaround shot from the top of the box. The play developed quickly on a breakaway, with Tommy Mihalić linking up with Evans, who turned and buried the go-ahead goal past the Tacoma goalkeeper.
Evans capped off a standout second-half performance with a brace and an assist, earning Man of the Match honors in LAFC2’s 4-2 win.
Other nominees for Goal of Matchweek 5 included Kimani Stewart-Baynes (Colorado Rapids 2), Stas Korzeniowski (Philadelphia Union II), and Ruben Ramos Jr. (Ventura County FC).
LAFC2 now shift their focus to a road clash against Real Monarchs on April 23.
