Matchday 16 in MLS NEXT Pro presented several standout performances from the league's top players, as well as surprising results as competition heats up for coveted spots further up the table.
Here are the results from Sunday's games in Matchday 16.
Crown Legacy FC (3) - Atlanta United 2 (1)
Patrick Agyemang's brace guided Crown Legacy FC past a previously surging Atlanta United 2 side. Agyemang struck twice in two minutes in the 3-1 win, bringing his season total to seven goals.
Luke Brennan gave ATL UTD 2 a lifeline in the 68th minute, finishing after latching onto an excellent long ball forward from Nick Firmino. Crown Legacy's Joao Guilherme scored in the 84th minute to seal the win for the Eastern Conference leaders.
Crown Legacy now leads the Eastern Conference by six points. The loss snapped a three-match unbeaten streak for ATL UTD 2.
Chicago Fire FC II (0) - FC Cincinnati (0) (FCC2 wins shootout 4-3)
FCC2 picked up two points in a road trip to SeatGeek Stadium, with an excellent defensive performance and a decisive kick from the spot made by Salim Adams.
In regulation, FC Cincinnati 2 goakeeper Paul Walters fended off nine shots on goal from 25 total shots from Fire II. FCC2 hung in the match despite keeping only 38.5% of possession.
FCC2 bucked a poor road record, picking up their first points away from home since April 30. Fire II picked up at least a point at home for the second straight week.
Inter Miami II (0) - New England Revolution II (2)
Jordan Adebayo-Smith provided two assists, while Peyton Miller and Malcolm Fry scored to push Revs II to three points in a road trip to DRV PNK Stadium.
Miller found plenty of space on the right side to score his first professional goal in the 51st minute. Fry's goal sealed the win in the 88th minute, as he finished off an excellent passing sequence that carried the ball up the field on the feet of multiple teammates.
Revs II continues to fight among the top sides in the Eastern Conference, stretching an unbeaten run to three games with Sunday's result.
Huntsville City FC (6) - Orlando City B (2)
Huntsville City FC playmaker Kemy Amiche had one goal and three assists and Isaiah Johnston had two goals as Huntsville City FC cruised to a win at Joe Davis Stadium.
Chrisnovic N'Sa opened scoring in the 19th minute for HCFC. Johnston scored a penalty kick and another goal in a three-minute sequence that brought HCFC a 3-1 lead at halftime. Ollie Wright had two assists as Azaad Liadi and Amiche scored in the 51st and 55th minutes. Joseph Skinner completed the rout by scoring in the 78th minute. Jack Lynn and Alexander Freeman scored for OCB.
OCB have hit a rough run with losses in three of the last four matches. HCFC broke out of a short spell of poor form and arrive two points away from a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
MNUFC2 (0) - Real Monarchs (2)
Real Monarchs finished the first half strong and started the second half similarly, scoring twice close to the halftime mark and locking up three points in a road match. Ilijah Paul scored a penalty kick in the 38th minute, and Daron Iskenderian punched in a rebound from a save in the 46th minute.
Iskenderian has provided two goals in the past four games for Real Monarchs. Real Monarchs generated 13 total shots and five shots on goal.
Real Monarchs claimed its first ever win against MNUFC2, and formed a three-game unbeaten streak. MNUFC2 saw a three-game unbeaten run of its own broken.
New York Red Bulls II (2) - NYCFC II (3)
NYCFC II defended a lead after an eventful second half. Jonathan Jimenez's 69th-minute goal to make it 3-0 proved to be the decisive goal.
NYCFC II took a 3-0 lead with goals from Samuel Owusu, Matthew Myers, and Jimenez. Jack Beer had two assists.
Red Bulls II went down a man with a sending-off in the 62nd minute. That didn't dampen the team's desire to get back in the match, however. Ricardo Gorday and Ibrahim Kasule scored in the 79th and 80th minutes. NYCFC II goalkeeper Alexander Yagudayev made seven saves to prevent an equalizer.
NYCFC II picked up three much-needed points, breaking a four-game losing streak. Red Bulls II broke a two-game winning run with the loss.
LA Galaxy II (1) - St Louis CITY2 (0)
A 71st-minute goal from supersub Carson Klein made the difference for LA Galaxy II in a 1-0 win Sunday against St Louis CITY2.
Klein entered the match in the 65th minute and scored just six minutes later, volleying into the net after Aaron Bibout headed the ball back into the middle of the six-yard box from a set piece. Galaxy II controlled possession and generated six shots on goal.
Galaxy II picked up its first win since May 21, dropping CITY2 to a second straight loss.
LAFC2 (2) - Earthquakes II (1)
Los Angeles Football Club 2 picked up its first home win of the season with a 2-1 result over Earthquakes II. The win for LAFC2 also snapped Earthquakes II's seven-game away unbeaten streak.
Favian Vasquez opened scoring in the 12th minute, finishing off a pinpoint cross from Christian Torres. Nathan Ordaz doubled the lead in the 21st minute. Eduardo Blancas pulled a goal back for Quakes II in the 43rd minute.
Timbers2 (3) - Sporting Kansas City II (1)
Timbers2 brought Sporting Kansas City II's momentum to a grinding halt, earning their third home win in the last four games at Providence Park. T2 broke out of a three-game losing streak, with Josh Penn scoring a goal and adding an assist.
Penn scored in the 19th minute, equalizing a SKC II goal from Ethan Bryant just three minutes earlier. Blake Pope scored with a low driven shot in the 38th minute. Julian Bravo finished off a set piece chance to seal the victory in the 52nd minute.
Tacoma Defiance (3) - North Texas SC (0)
Tacoma Defiance earned a dominant win over North Texas SC in Sunday's final match. Paul Rothrock scored, and Defiance profited from two own goals.
Rothrock got on the end of a long pass from Braudilio Rodrigues in the 24th minute and finished in style with a lobbed shot. Defiance took the lead with an own goal off a Rothrock cross in the first minute of the game. Midfielder Snyder Brunell was instrumental in the defensive effort, with four tackles.
Defiance remains one of MLS NEXT Pro's hottest teams, with four wins in a row and three clean sheets in a row. North Texas dropped its third match in the last five, and remain embroiled in a tight midtable battle in the Western Conference.
