Ventura County defender Ascel Essengue has won the MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchweek 6 honor after earning over 40% of the vote.
The 20-year-old player's dramatic goal against Sporting KC II in the 93rd minute tied the game, leading his team to a shootout. Ventura County secured their first shootout victory of the season, winning by 11:10 to earn the extra point.
Other Goal of Matchweek 6 nominees included MNUFC2’s Carlos Harvey, NYCFC II’s Maximo Carrizo and Chattanooga FC’s Alex McGrath.
Essengue has played a huge role in Ventura County’s rise to the top of the Western Conference standings, featuring in all six games this season and scoring twice.
