Austin FC II's Diego Abarca has been named the MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchweek 25 winner after earning over 70% of the poll vote.
Other Goal of Matchweek 25 nominees included The Town FC’s Beau Leroux, Crown Legacy FC’s Nimfasha Berchimas, and Huntsville City FC’s Julian Gaines.
Abarca's goal resulted from a fluid sequence of passes, culminating in a perfectly delivered cross from Rubén Bonachera to Abarca, who found the back of the net with ease. Despite Austin FC II's narrow 3-2 defeat, Abarca's goal stood out as a highlight, showcasing the offensive cohesion of Brett Uttley’s team.
Abarca has quickly made his mark after signing with Austin FC II in June. The El Paso native joined Austin FC II after making history with El Paso Locomotive FC, where he became the youngest starter and goal-scorer in the club's history.
Austin FC II will look to bounce back from their defeat against CITY2 when they face MNUFC2 on Sunday, September 8th.
