LA Galaxy II's midfielder Alex Alcalá has secured the MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchday 12 due to his remarkable goal against Real Monarchs at Zions Bank Stadium.
The 17-year-old Alcalá put on a memorable performance, not only finding the back of the net but also delivering two assists that led the way offensively for LA Galaxy II.
Alcalá emerged as the undisputed winner in the Twitter poll, commanding over 50% of the votes. Jonathan Bolanos from Huntsville City FC secured 30% of the votes, while Juninho from Orlando City B and Richard Fleming from Chicago Fire II earned their share of recognition.
Although LA Galaxy II fell short of victory against Real Monarchs, Alcalá's remarkable display left a lasting impression on everyone who witnessed the match.
Alcalá was directly involved in every goal his team scored. In the 14th minute, he received a well-placed pass in LA Galaxy II's final third, skillfully evaded two Real Monarchs defenders, and provided a precise assist to Aaron Bibout, who converted the opportunity into a goal.
In the second half, with his team trailing, Alcalá once again took center stage. Positioned on the right side of the box, he showcased his technical skills with an array of step-overs before linking up with Adrian Gonzalez for a give-and-go that set up Alcalá to launch his shot into the back of the net.
The magic continued in the 84th minute when Alcalá orchestrated yet another moment of brilliance. Taking a short corner, he delivered a perfectly placed cross towards the second post, where Elijah Amadin was waiting to head the ball into the net, handing LA Galaxy II the lead.
Despite eventually succumbing to Real Monarchs in a shootout, Alcalá's performance showcased the fighting spirit of the young squad under the guidance of coach Marcelo Sarvas.
Following a break on Matchday 13, LA Galaxy II will make a comeback on June 25th for Matchday 14. They will hit the road to face Colorado Rapids 2 in their next match.
