Carolina Core FC returns to MLS Next Pro action as they travel to New York City FC II this Monday. The match will be livestreamed on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m ET.
The Fantastic Four-Goal Foxes
Carolina Core FC returns to MLS NEXT Pro action after a thumping four-goal game against Soda City FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The result saw three CCFC players get on the scoresheet: Josuha Rodriguez (2), Facundo Canete, and Jacob Evans. The Foxes more than deserved the result after registering 71% possession and attempting 13 shots (6 shots on goal). The performance launched CCFC into the second round of the cup, where they will take on USL League One side Charlotte Independence.
The Core will be taking a lot of confidence into their next match in the MLS NEXT Pro regular season against New York City FC II. The two sides only met once last season when CCFC hosted NYCFC II in an evenly matched 1-0 loss. The Foxes will look to turn the record around and grab all three points.
Player to Watch
In a Man of the Match performance, Josuha Rodriguez led The Foxes to victory last time out, registering a brace (2 goals) and an assist. Josuha’s Open Cup performances have been instrumental, and he has now registered five goal contributions (four goals and one assist) in four Open Cup appearances. The Honduran forward’s masterful flick, which found Facundo Canete for CCFC’s third of the night, shows the player’s flair and hunger as he’ll look to get on the scoresheet against NYCFC II.
Unbeaten in The Big Apple
New York City FC II has gotten off to an unbeaten start in the MLS NEXT Pro season (1-0-1). The first match of the season saw them face off against Crown Legacy FC and take home two points with a shootout win. Most recently, NYCFC II defeated Columbus Crew 2 in a decisive 2-0 home victory. Seymour Reid was integral in the win and is NYCFC II’s standout player of the campaign so far. The 17-year-old forward has netted three goals in two league appearances and The Foxes will need to make sure to keep him quiet.
Last season, NYCFC II qualified for the playoffs with a sixth-place finish. There is no doubt that NYCFC II’s goal is to return to the playoff stage and build on their first-round exit to Philadelphia Union II. For now, NYCFC II will strive to continue its unbeaten start when hosting CCFC on Monday.
