Foxes On Fire

In their last match, Carolina Core FC gained three points in an impressive 4-1 win over Atlanta United 2. This win now makes it three wins in a row for CCFC and has moved them up the standings in the Eastern Conference.

The match against Atlanta could not have started better, as a corner kick from Jacob Evans found Facundo Canete, who fired a header into the back of the net to make it 1-0. Atlanta United 2 would equalize in the 38th minute with a left-footed volley from defender Ethan Dudley.

The end of the first half would continue in CCFC’s favor, as David “Pachi” Polanco took back the lead with a thunderous volley near the penalty spot. Atlanta United 2 defender Efraín Morales would receive a second yellow card minutes after, causing Atlanta to play the second half with 10 men.

Canete would obtain his brace 12 minutes into the second half after he connected to another cross from captain Jacob Evans. The Englishman Evans would seal the game in the 90th minute, as he fired a left-footed shot through the legs of goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert to make it 4-1 for The Foxes.

New York Red Bulls II

After finishing fourth during the regular season of MLS NEXT Pro in 2023 and making it to the conference semifinals, the New York Red Bulls II (NYRB II) look to replicate their success during the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season.

The New York Red Bulls II are managed by former New York Red Bulls defender Ibrahim Sekagya. During his career, the Ugandan played for six different teams, notably the Austrian powerhouse Red Bull Salzburg, where he assembled 165 appearances. After retiring in 2015, Sekagya became an assistant coach for NYRB II. Sekagya worked with the second team for eight years before being named head coach in early 2023.

The team currently sits in 10th position in the Eastern Conference Standings with eight wins, 10 losses, and five ties.

In their last match, the Red Bulls fell to Crown Legacy FC 4-1. The match started well for NYRB II, as they opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a header from defender Aidan O’Connor. Crown Legacy FC would come out firing in the second half though, getting goals from Nimfasha Berchimas, Idan Toklomati, Julian Bravo, and Dylan Sing to give Crown Legacy FC the 4-1 victory.

The New York Red Bulls II are tied for 2nd in MLS Next Pro with 47 goals scored during the season. Though prolific in attack, they have also conceded 53 goals this season, which is second most in the league. Their top goal scorer, Roald Mitchell, impressed during the start of the season, scoring eight goals in five games, including grabbing four in a match against Chicago Fire FC II. The former Wake Forest forward secured himself a contract with the first team based on his outstanding performances.

16-year-old goalkeeper Aidan Stokes has made headlines recently, as he was selected for the United States U-17 National Team for the Vaclav Jezek Cup in the Czech Republic. Stokes is in his second season with the New York Red Bulls II, where he’s made 15 starts with 59% save percentage.
