Foxes Take Down FCC2

Carolina Core FC earned three massive points in the last gameweek, beating league leaders FC Cincinnati 2 in a tight contest 1-0.

Following a turbulent 90 minutes, it looked as if the match would end in a draw and go to penalty kicks. However, with a bit of possession and quick two-touch passing from The Foxes ended the match with a goal. A lofted cross from winger Derek Cuevas found the head of captain Jacob Evans, who nodded the ball into the net to give CCFC the lead in the 92nd minute.

With the goal, Evans would notch his fifth goal of the season, tying forward Josuha Rodriguez for top goal scorer for CCFC in MLS NEXT Pro.

Chica Impresses In First Start

New central defender Daniel Chica made his first career start with Carolina Core FC against FC Cincinnati 2. The Virginia native started in central defense alongside Kai Thomas and Aryeh Miller. This back three played along with goalkeeper Alex Sutton, performed superbly in the game, helping bring Carolina Core FC its first clean sheet of the season. Chica made an immediate impact in the CCFC defense, totaling seven clearances, three interceptions, and four recoveries during the match.

Last Matchup

The last matchup between CCFC and New England Revolution II (NERII) happened back in gameweek 3 of MLS NEXT Pro. The home team, NERII, would take the three points at Gillette Stadium, winning 2-1. The Revolution would take an early lead in the second minute with a goal from Malcolm Fry. The Core would find a response in the 37th minute with a thunderous strike outside the box from David “Pachi” Polanco. NERII would take the lead in the 58th minute with a goal from midfielder Jack Panayotou. Midfielder Patrick Leal has been another revelation this season in this New England Revolution attack. The former Sporting CP and Venezia FC midfielder has played in every game for NERII, registering four goals and two assists. Leal is also tied for third in the league for key passes with 47.
