Core Take Down The Revolution

In Matchweek 24 of the MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season, Carolina Core FC defeated New England Revolution II, 2-1.

The game started well for The Revolution, as forward Alex Monis opened the scoring in the 16th minute of the match. However, Revolution II would find themselves in trouble just five minutes later, after midfielder Javaun Mussenden received a second yellow card for a foul on David “Pachi” Polanco.

After playing almost the entire second half, CCFC would finally find an equalizer in the dying minutes of the game. Substitute Derek Cuevas would head the ball down towards the goal, and Facundo Canete would be quick to react and place the ball calmly into the left side of the New England net.

CCFC would go on to secure the game-winning goal in added time, with Canete getting his brace off of a headed shot from a cross by captain Jacob Evans.

This win would earn CCFC its second in a row and put them just a few points off a playoff spot with multiple games in hand in a tight Eastern Conference battle.

Ozzie Makes His Debut

New signing Ozzie Ramos made his debut during the match against New England Revolution II. The Modesto, California native would come onto the pitch in the 64th minute of the match, replacing midfielder Santiago Cambindo. Ramos would impress in his CCFC debut, totaling two shots on target along with 87% pass completion rate.

Last Matchup

In the last matchup between Carolina Core FC and Atlanta United 2 (ATL2), The Foxes marked the occasion with their first win of their inaugural season, 2-1. Atlanta would open the scoring in the 31st minute of the match with forward Erik Centeno cutting the ball back into the box, and Noble Okello finishing the move with a goal. Two quick fire goals at the end of the half from Carolina Core FC would put them into the lead for good, as a thunderous right footed strike from Jacob Evans and a header from defender Christian Diaz proved enough to get the win.

Atlanta United 2

Atlanta United 2 currently sit in 12th position in the Eastern Conference standings with six wins, 10 losses, and five draws.

It’s been an enjoyable month of August for ATL2, as they’ve obtained eight points from their last four games, beating the likes of New England Revolution II and Toronto FC II during the stretch.

In their last match, Atlanta is coming off of a 4-1 defeat to Orlando City B, with the result serving as their first loss in MLS NEXT Pro since mid-July against Crown Legacy FC.

Two big threats in the Atlanta United 2 attack this season have been forward Karim Tmimi and midfielder Javier Armas. The two have combined for 13 of the teams 31 goals this season. Armas also has an eye for a pass, leading the team in key passes with 37.
