CAROLINA CORE FC POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Roy Lassiter
On the U.S. Open Cup victory …
“The opposition was very good tonight. Their fans were engaged and supported them very well. However, I thought our discipline was better and our fight was good. We showed a lot of intelligence in the match, and we knew it was our moment. We outshot them, had more corner kicks, and had a better share of possession. I knew it was just a matter of time before we would score. Unfortunately, they scored a penalty on us, but the team responded well and showed resilience. All of our players and staff just keep going; we never stopped. We came back and saw the game out despite the weather and the crowd, going through the obstacles. The boys stuck together tonight to get the result.”
On Jacob Evans’ performance…
“Jacob is a leader and a commander out there on the field. He had good awareness of the field, and he was very poised in his decision-making. Tonight, he showed a lot of experience and battled for everything, showcasing his skills and soccer intelligence. Evans was the key player that got us through the game today.”
Midfielder Jacob Evans
On how the team played tonight…
“The boys responded amazingly tonight. It was a tough game, against a tough team, in difficult conditions. The team showed character again tonight. I knew we were always going to win that game, even after going a goal down. Hats off to the boys, and hopefully we can push on from here.”
On what the victory means coming off a winless streak…
“We've got two weeks off now (MLS NEXT Pro games), so it was crucial for us to get a result tonight. This is a good opportunity for us to kick on now.”
