New England Revolution II midfielder Maciel has been awarded Goal of Matchweek 14 after earning over 60% of the poll vote. This marks back-to-back weeks that a New England Revolution II player has won, following Patrick Leal's award in Matchweek 13.
Other nominees for MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchweek 14 included Taylor Calheira from NYCFC II, Aaron Bibout from Ventura County FC, and Yuval Cohen from Inter Miami II.
Maciel’s goal took place just before halftime against New York Red Bulls II. As the Red Bulls II defense attempted to clear the ball, the 24-year-old Brazilian seized the opportunity and hit a stunning volley that sent the ball into the top right corner of the goal. Maciel’s strike helped Revolution II secure their fourth victory of the campaign.
After suffering from an Achilles injury in 2022, Maciel has been an impactful player for New England Revolution II over the past two seasons. He has started 13 games, scored one goal, and provided two assists in over 1,000 minutes of play in 2024.
New England Revolution II will aim for another victory as they host New York Red Bulls II on Sunday, June 23rd during Matchweek 15 action. Fans can watch all the MLS NEXT Pro action on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
