Philadelphia Union II midfielder David Vazquez has earned the MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchweek 11, narrowly defeating Orlando City B’s Yutaro Tsukada for the award.
Vazquez netted two goals in Union II's 5-1 victory against Red Bulls II. His first goal came just before halftime, while his award winning goal occurred in the 83rd minute.
The 18-year-old scored his second goal of the match after Union II was awarded a free kick near the Red Bulls II box. Vazquez lined up and unleashed a brilliant left-footed shot, curling it past the three-man wall to secure the win for his team.
The young midfielder joined the Union Academy in 2022 and recently signed a Homegrown contract through 2027. Vazquez also represented the United States in the 2023 U-17 World Cup, where he scored during the Round of 16 match against Germany.
With their Matchweek 11 victory, Union II now sit atop the Eastern Conference standings with 23 points. They'll look to keep their spot at the top of the mountain during Matchweek 12 action when they host Columbus Crew 2 on June 2nd.
