MNUFC2 rolled to a convincing MLS NEXT Pro Opening Week victory on Friday night, with academy player Leo Conneh shining bright in Cameron Knowles' squad.
Conneh scored once and registered one assist as MNUFC2 breezed past Real Monarchs 3-0 for their first three points of 2023. The 18-year-old made his MLS NEXT Pro debut at Zions Bank Stadium, providing an early glimpse of his long-term potential for the Western Conference club.
After Diogo Pacheco propelled MNUFC2 into a 1-0 advantage, Conneh extended the visitors' advantage before halftime. Leo used his speed to get into the Real Monarchs' box before tapping Loïc Mesanvi's cross home into the back of the net.
MNUFC2 continued to pile on the pressure in the second half, and Conneh played distributor on the club’s final goal of the night. His pass to Pacheco allowed the attacking midfielder to blast the goal from outside the box.
Conneh finished the match with 84 minutes played, one foul drawn, and two shots in total to go along with his goal and assist. Following an exceptional opening weekend performance, he will be one young player to watch for MNUFC2 this season.
MNUFC2 will remain on the road for Matchday 2, traveling to St Louis CITY2 on April 2.
