This year's finalists, North Texas SC and Philadelphia Union II, have taken different paths to the cusp of glory.
North Texas SC won the Western Conference with a season built on dominance at home. 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Goalkeeper of the Year Micheal Collodi has been a big part of that, and he was at the peak of his powers with a five-save masterpiece to help NTSC lift the Western Conference trophy last week.
The youthful Union II side is headlined by budding superstar Cavan Sullivan, whose payoff mode produced yet another viral moment in the form of a long-range golazo to help Union II cruise to their Eastern Conference trophy lift.

Many, many stories to choose from for North Texas SC. But undeniably the most impressive is their at-large 2024 home unbeaten streak. In all competitions, they're 12W-0L-5T at home and determined to keep that line unblemished.
Fun fact: Both previous MLS NEXT Pro Cup champions had the Goalkeeper of the Year on their side. Patrick Schulte with Columbus Crew 2 in 2022, and Damian Las with Austin FC II in 2023.
Union II will make for some noisy visitors. In the regular season, they scored 59 goals which tied for tops in the league and posted seven road wins which tied for second-most.
Fun fact: Union II have never failed to score in an away game this season. They have scored 34 goals in 14 away games.
North Texas SC
Watch North Texas SC's road to the final started as the top seed in the Western Conference. They selected Whitecaps FC 2 for their first round opponents and advanced on a sweaty 3-2 win.
They picked the Tacoma Defiance next and took care of business 4-1, and won the Western Conference Final 3-0 over St Louis CITY2.
Philadelphia Union II
Union II finished second in the Eastern Conference and selected NYCFC II as their playoff opener, winning 1-0.
They outlasted their next selection, Crown Legacy FC, in a shootout after going the distance in extra time 1-1. A dominant 4-0 win over Columbus Crew 2 won the Eastern Conference Final last weekend.
