Huntsville, Ala. (March 20, 2024) – Huntsville City Football Club will welcome fans back to Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium on Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. CT when the Boys in Blue kick off their 2024 home schedule against Orlando City B. The club’s home opener is the first of 14 home games this season.
Here are five things to know for Friday’s match, airing live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
- When the Boys in Blue take the field Friday night, they will be looking to repeat their record-setting performance from the last time the club hosted Orlando City B. Huntsville City set the team record for goals scored in a match in a dominant 6-2 win July 9, 2023. HCFC was named MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchday 16 for its performance, with Izzy Johnston recording his first career brace and Joey Skinner’s curling goal from outside the box being nominated for MLS NEXT Pro Goal of the Matchday.
- Fans in attendance and watching the match will get to see the new “Countdown Kit” primary jerseys on the field for the first time Friday night. The kit celebrates the NASA Rockets born in Huntsville that helped send Americans to space and reminds supporters that now is the time for the team to give everything they can on the pitch and beyond. Fans can buy the kit at the team store inside Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium or online here.
- Friday will be the first chance for Huntsville City FC fans to experience the many new amenities at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium in 2024. Attendees who have tickets in the West Terrace will be able to enter Wicks Family Field two hours before kickoff. Fans can get closer to the action with the new Fieldside Party Suite, which includes unlimited beverages with tickets, and they can meet up with fellow supporters ahead of kickoff at the new 7,800 North Plaza, located next to the Yellowhammer Brewing Craft Beer Garden. If you’re going to the game, you can now purchase parking passes on-site in addition to pre-purchasing via the Clutch app. Finally, ahead of kickoff, fans will be able to see “The Launch”, featuring the NASA J-2X Rocket Engine at the stadium. “The Launch” includes a Countdown Captain selected on gameday to send the team into its match with pyrotechnics coming out of the engine.
- MLS NEXT Pro President Charles Altchek will be in attendance Friday night for the club’s home opener. Credentialed media attending the match can speak to President Altchek at approximately 6:30 p.m. CT in the West Terrace of Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium.
- Seven players made their team and league debuts during HCFC's 2-2 draw with Chattanooga FC on March 16: defenders Joel Sangwa, Chris Applewhite and Scott Cheevers; midfielders Sergi Oriol and Brennan Creek; and forwards Maximus Ekk and Forster Ajago. Additionally, midfielder Julian Gaines made his Huntsville City FC debut.
