Huntsville, Ala. (Dec. 12, 2023) – Huntsville City Football Club announced today midfielder Jonathan Bolaños will return for the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Season. The 25-year-old midfielder becomes the fifth player to return to Huntsville City FC from the 2023 inaugural season, joining defender Fernando Ciceron, midfielders Isaiah Johnston and Ollie Wright, and forward Azaad Liadi.
“Jonathan was an integral part of our Club last season,” said Liam Doyle, Huntsville City FC Director of Soccer Operations. “He is a fantastic player and person who embodies what it means to represent the badge both on the pitch and in the Huntsville community, and we are confident he will play a key role in our team’s success in 2024.”
Bolaños finished the 2023 season third on the team in goals (six) and assists (five). The 25-year-old made history for both the Club and the city by scoring Huntsville’s first goal at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium during HCFC’s home opening 2-1 victory over Crown Legacy on May 19. He also tied the league record for fastest goal by scoring nine seconds into Huntsville’s 4-2 win over St. Louis CITY2 on June 11, earning him a nomination for MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchday 12.
Bolaños and his teammates will kick off the new season with the inaugural “Huntsville City FC Blastoff Battle Invitational” on Feb. 16 – 18, 2024 at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium. You can find more information about the tournament and how to get tickets here.
