Rematch at The Point
Carolina Core FC is preparing for a significant rematch against NYCFCII following last week’s road encounter. CCFC’s visit to the Big Apple resulted in a narrow 2-1 defeat, with CCFC midfielder Jacob Evans getting on the scoresheet for The Foxes. During the match, The Core outshot their opponents 13-5 and forced the goalkeeper to make five saves. After Evans pulled one back in the 80th minute, NYCFC II’s defense managed to keep CCFC at bay for the final 10 minutes, securing all three points.
Most recently, Carolina Core FC was eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup following a narrow 2-1 defeat in extra time against Charlotte Independence. The Jacks struck first, only two minutes into the match. The Foxes responded quickly, with Josuha Rodriguez equalizing in the 10th minute. The two sides remained deadlocked afterwards, and the winning goal did not come until the 93rd minute of extra time. Carolina Core FC turns its full attention to MLS NEXT Pro as it looks to claim all three points and its first win in league play against NYCFCII.
Player to Watch
Facundo Canete continues to demonstrate that he is a critical piece of CCFC’s midfield presence. The Argentinian midfielder has already registered two goal contributions (one goal and one assist) in four matches across all competitions. However, Canete’s defensive work rate sets him apart, as he boasts an 86% successful tackle rate, along with 18 duels won, 13 recoveries, and five interceptions in MLS Next Pro play. Facundo’s contributions in the middle of the park have been pivotal to the results that The Foxes have achieved.
NYCFCII Aims to Bounce Back
New York City FC II dropped to second place in the Eastern Conference standings with eight points after its loss in the New York derby to New York Red Bulls II. In a game that looked like it was going to end in a 2-2 draw, New York Red Bulls II found a late goal in the 86th minute through 17-year-old Julian Hall. The loss puts an end to NYCFC II’s unbeaten start to its MLS NEXT Pro campaign, and they will be looking to get back to winning ways by completing the double over The Foxes.
One of NYCFCII’s top performers this season is forward Julien Lacher. The winger has consistently produced for the New York side, registering two goal contributions (one goal and one assist) in three MLSNP appearances. In addition to his return up front, the talented young winger acted as a playmaker, creating five big chances and registering a 78% successful dribble rate. The Foxes will need to make sure to limit his chances to provide for NYCFC II top-scorer Seymour Reid (three goals).
